What is The WELS Scheme?
Q: What is WELS?
A: WELS is a Government Legislation that relates to the registering and water efficiency labelling of all products that utilise water. It came into full effect 1st July, 2007.
Q: Why was it introduced?
A: WELS was introduced as a result of Australia’s current water shortage. Under the scheme, all products must be tested then labelled so that consumers are given the ability to make an informed decision with regard to the water efficiency of the items they purchase.
Q: How does it affect BRITEX (and other manufacturers)?
A: Numerous BRITEX products fall under the banner of products that must be registered, tested and labelled under the WELS scheme. These include: Urinals, Toilet Pans, Flushing Devices and fixtures that come complete with tapware. As part of our commitment to water conservation, BRITEX has made it a goal to ensure all our products are rated as highly as possible. To see how our products rate under the scheme, please visit the WELS site at www.waterrating.gov.au
Q: How does it affect ME?
A: The WELS Scheme affects everyone in the supply chain for the procurement of plumbing related products. Accordingly there are inherent requirements for the specifier, manufacturer, seller and installer of these products. Please visit the WELS website to view these guidelines.
